            LEONILA'S STORY

On 13th July 2012, a life threatening medical emergency arose at a local police station, in Brisbane, as a female Queensland Police Service employee Leonila Garcia suffered a major brain haemorrhage. She was immediately transferred to hospital, and subsequently underwent a major operation to relieve the pressure on her brain. As a result of this life saving surgery she is now back at home and living with her family; but is sadly paralysed down her right side, confined to a wheelchair and unable to converse or operate day to day in the normal manner.

This unforeseen situation has put Leonila's family into a precarious financial position. Leonila has indicated a willingness to convert her challenging circumstances into a positive outcome and wishes to use her situation to raise and build awareness in the community and to aid two other individual deserving charities.

The Official launch of the auction was held in the Commissioners Conference Room at Queensland Police HQ on Friday 15th March at 10am. Present was Victoria Cross Recipients Ben Roberts-Smith VC MG, Flo Payne (wife of Keith Payne, VC), the Deputy Police Commissioner Ross Barnett; Superintendent Mark Plath representing Helping Hands together with representatives from Soldier On, White Cloud and Pickles Plus.

The original intention was for all proceeds raised to be shared between three charities. Helping Hands (50% funds raised to Leonila); The White Cloud foundation (25 % funds raised)  which provides solid support for people, families and carers for those who live with depression in Australia; and Soldier On (25% funds raised) which is a Charity caring for physically and psychologically wounded soldiers). However, at the offical launch, the representatives from both Soldier On and White Cloud donated their potential share in the proceeds of the auction back to Leonila. Now, every dollar raised will benefit Leonila directly and not one cent of the proceeds will be wasted in administration or other costs.

It is sincerely hoped that a generous benefactor may purchase the montage and then allow it to be exhibited at the Australian War Memorial (Canberra) who have indicated their interest in acquiring it for their collection.

This unique framed piece of memorabilia will be generously auctioned by PicklesPlus Online Auction (www.picklesplus.com.au) at no charge to either the buyer or the seller. Pickles will deliver the montage directly to the winning bidder at the close of the auction. The auction for this exclusive and distinctive print will be launched on that day and will come to an end ten days later on 25th March 2013. Between the 1st March and 25th March the Montage will be hosted and exhibited by the QPS Museum situated at QPS HQ to enable public access to view this unique item before it may be gone forever.
